Most modern engines can do more than the factory software allows. The ECU controls fuel, ignition, boost and torque, and carmakers set it up to suit emissions rules, varying fuel quality and every kind of driver. A remap rewrites that software for one specific car or bike and the way its owner drives.
This is what RBR has done since it opened in Thrissur in 2015. We have remapped everything from a Tata Nano to a Lamborghini Huracán, a Porsche GT3, AMGs and M cars, as well as KTMs, Harley-Davidsons, Triumphs, BMWs and Ducatis.
What a remap can change
What you notice most is how the car pulls at the revs you use every day. A map can be set up for quicker throttle response, stronger mid range pull, better fuel economy, or a mix. Power band tuning, a custom torque map, diagnostics and a firmware update can all happen in the same visit.
Every vehicle that comes in gets its own map.
Before we change anything, we read the ECU and check the car for faults. An engine with a weak sensor, old oil or carbon on the injectors will not run a new map as well as a healthy one. That is why we check the vehicle first and tell you if anything should be fixed before the remap.
How the visit works
You tell us the vehicle, how you drive it, and whether you want more response, better economy, or both. We read and check the ECU, then remap it for that car or bike. After that you take it for a drive, and if you want changes, you call us.
What to ask for
- ECU remap: power, economy and a torque curve that suit your driving
- Diagnostics: a full read of the ECU before anything is changed
- Power band and torque tuning: where in the rev range the engine pulls, and how hard
- Firmware update: the latest ECU software for your vehicle
